Trauma Informed Culture is:

Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration of the USA (SAMHSA) also identifies the following six principles of a trauma-informed approach:

  1. Safety.  

  2. Trustworthiness and Transparency.  

  3. Peer Support. 

  4. Collaboration and Mutuality. 

  5. Empowerment, Voice, and Choice. 

  6. Cultural, Historical and Gender Issues.

The 4 R's of trauma-informed care are:

  1. Realise: Realise the widespread impact of trauma.

  2. Recognise: Recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma.

  3. Respond: Respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into practice. 

  4. Resist Re-traumatization: Actively resist re-traumatization.

Aims

  1. Grow the network. 

  2. Support professionals to be trauma informed.

  3. Listen to the voice of those with lived experience. 

  4. Lobby for system change.

  5. Collaborate together.
